A Peek Inside Pipsqueak Players
Every Pipsqueak Players class is different but contain some of the same components.
Welcome Game: We spark the excitement of our players with various improvisation games. A player favorite is Zip- Zap- Zop, where students exchange one of those 3 words with their peers. This works on quick decision making, focus, and getting the kids comfortable with each other.
Imagination Activation: During this part of our class, we work on getting our waking up our imaginations. We'll play a drama game or two and/or do a craft to encourage our players to find ways to express themselves. Currently, our students are working on a mural in response to our current book about colors.
"Performance" Practice: Students review the book they are reading with active listening. For example, during this color-themed session, we'll ask the students to spot and run to items in the room of the same color when a color is mentioned in the book. As students run through their lines, we encourage them to add movement, contribute ideas to staging, incorporate props, and use their voices express the emotion of their characters.
Closing Game: During this time we review our welcome game and add in games that complement it. A player favorite is Sight Word Scramble. We have age appropriate sight words on cones around the room. Players quickly get to the sight word cone when the word is called.
We always have a blast during our Pipsqueak Players classes and hope to see your child in class with us soon!
