Reluctant Reader Corner

Some kids love being read to, others can’t stop reading (yes, I have overflowed the bathtub because my nose was in a book)...then there are those few that just don’t seem interested in a book. My eight year old falls into that category. Read to him--great, but the second you ask him to read on his own, DRAMA! As an educator, I know that finding the right genre can be tricky. I always attempt to bring books home that are on his level, as well as being creative and amusing for him.

This summer, I discovered the Press Start: Game Over Super Rabbit Boy series. The quick paced plot, set in a video game world, along with the great graphic illustrations grabbed my reluctant reader’s attention. A great read for a first or second grader. The book is part of a series published by the Branches division of Scholastic. Branches encourages readers to grow through just right books.
