Activity: Alphabet Dictionary
Admittedly, I never got around to this activity but as your little ones (and you parents) get into the doldrums of the "routine" and colder weather, this is a fun way to spark some creativity. Have your child create an alphabet dictionary by inspiring them to draw pictures or write words that start with each letter of the alphabet. You can amp up the fun factor by creating it around a theme (i.e. Fall = "C" is for CANDY), basing it off of a scavenger hunt or jotting down ideas on vacation as a way for them to archive their memories.
It would be fun to bind this little book and add it to your child's library...or if you're a hoarder like me it goes into the bin of keepsakes. This activity promotes phonemic awareness and ultimately, reading. Plus, kids are proud to publish and share their work!
You can find a template for an "Alphabet Organizer" here:
You can also easily creative your own using blank pages :)
