If you haven't read this charming book about an alphabet race up the coconut tree, please add it to your list. The story is a fun way to introduce or review the alphabet. The rhyming lines help younger learners remember the words and order of the letters.
Activity: Draw a coconut tree on a piece of paper. Have your little learners put the letters on the tree in the order they are read. When they fall down, mix them up and have them send them back up the tree as the second part of the story is read. If you want to increase difficulty, use upper case letters for the first part and lower case letters for the second part of the book.
NJCCSS: RF.K.1.D:Recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
